When you are interviewing agents to sell or buy a home with, one of the many questions you should always ask is, “What presence do you have online and on social media?”

It’s no secret that social media has the time and attention of most segments of society. That being said, it’s important for real estate agents to have significant knowledge about marketing homes online. Ask how they use social media and other online avenues to market your home. If they do, what is their typical reach when they advertise online? Ask for their website and any other social media platforms they use. After the interview, take the time to research them and their online presence. If you don’t see them advertising other homes they have for sale online, they probably won’t advertise yours online either. Do they provide helpful information to buyers and sellers on their website or other social media pages? If their social media feeds are full of helpful advice to buyers and sellers, tips and tricks for homeowners, or information about the area they serve, they are probably truly concerned with helping people and representing their clients beyond their clients’ highest expectations.

Several websites also show reviews of agents published by former clients. It’s worth your time to research the prospective agents you are interviewing and read what others have honestly said about their service. Don’t be afraid to ask the agent for a list of names and contact information for some of their previous clients so you can call and ask direct questions. You would be surprised at how candid and honest former clients are, and they will tell you a lot about the agent’s style and abilities.
